Scenic City Empress

All our guests are eligible to receive a complimentary cruise on the Empress.  It is also a perfect venue for weddings, class and family reunions.  Plus, the Empress features special music dinner cruises during the spring and summer. Ask the innkeeper for more information when you make your reservation for the cabin.

Pat Clark Art Collection

Iowa Falls, a small city of 5,000 located on the Iowa River in north central Iowa, is called “The Scenic City” because of its natural beauty. The Pat Clark Art Collection adds another resource to the community, one that will teach residents of all ages to appreciate “beauty ” in many forms.

Barns of Hardin County

The Jefferson Highway Barn 1.5 miles south of Hubbard (JJ Ave) stood next to the "503 Mile Interstate Trail" founded in 1911 that stretched from Winnipeg to New Orleans. Note the decorative cross-hatching on the doors and the woodworking below the mow windows.

Scenic City Car Show

The Scenic City Labor Day Car Show will return to the streets of downtown Iowa Falls on Monday, Sept. 2. This will be the show’s 23rd year. Registration will be 7:30 to 11 a.m., and awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m. There will be two “Best of Show” cars, and dash plaques will be awarded for the first 250 entries. Door prizes will also be handed out, as will “Top 40” trophies. In all, there are 34 category trophies. In addition to the show on Monday, there will be a cruise on Sunday, Sept. 1. Participants are invited to gather from 3 to 3:30 p.m. in the Iowa Falls Fareway parking lot.

Calkins Nature Area


Calkins Nature Area is a truly unique asset to Hardin County. Located between Iowa Falls and Alden, Calkins Nature Area boasts a first rate nature center of over 6,000 square feet which greets you as you enter 76 acres of rolling hills, nestled up to the banks of the Iowa River.
Covering those rolling hills are representations of the major ecosystems that are native to this area of the state:
tallgrass prairie, oak savanna, upland forest, bottomland forest, wetland and riparian
